Hi!

We made it to China! We are with our American friends right now, in their apartment, using their internet! We got in about 12 hours ago, around midnight (noon your time). We were able to sleep on the plane a lot which was great. The flight was great, they changed our seats and put us in an exit row so we had HUGE leg room. And we all had individual screens to watch movies, TV shows, play games, or watch the flight map. I watched the new Alice in Wonderland and slept. The food was actually really good too. We had the choice of beef or fish for dinner, both were delicious. Then we had a snack: Chicken burrito with a small cup of Haagen Dasz Ice cream, random but delicious! Then breakfast was egg, sausage, & potato casserole.

When we got to Shanghai we met our Chinese friend Tian in the airport, his flight arrived in Shanghai (from Chicago) right when ours did! So that was perfect! He helped us through the airport and we used his cell phone to call our friends here. Then he helped us get directions to go out to a famous part of Shanghai. He wrote the directions in Chinese for us so we could just show someone the paper and they pointed us in the right direction. We took a bus and then the subway all by ourselves! It wasn't bad b/c the PA system said the stops in english as well as chinese. So we walked around part of Shanghai last night which was crazy. It was basically like Times Square in NYC, except full of Chinese people, oh and it's about 95 degrees here so it was ridiculously hot! Especially when compared to the mid 60s - 70s we've had in Michigan. We successfully ordered 2 big dumplings for dinner by ourselves and they were delicious. We finally made it to our friends' city last night and unloaded at the hotel. Another Chinese friend is actually visiting them right now too and she is staying at the hotel with us.

Now we are helping them unpack, Mitch is helping assemble the 4 yr old's (Ellie) new play kitchen that she got for her birthday. We will start unloading everything in a few minutes, basically as soon as I finish this message.

Well that's about it for now! We'll keep you updated!

Love you all,

Mitch & Alice
