Garage Sale

The garage sale is going really well, with neighbors and family also pitching in some items to sell. Alice and Audrey ran the sale for most of the day today, and they just left at about 2:30. My dad just left also, because he has to go play golf. Jenna is at, or on her way to, Indy for the 500. My mom is at work until 5:00, so I am home alone for 2 hours, running the sale, and I'm trying to put an ad in the South Bend Tribune before they close at 4.

UPDATE : OK I placed the ad, it went well, but I had to kind of ignore one guy who drove up. He didn't ask me any questions or anything, but he didn't get the "HELLOOO!" that we've been giving out to most everybody else. From my seat in the garage, it looks like everything is still out there, on the tables, on the driveway, and all around me. Only the money in my pockets could prove that anyone has bought anything. One guy was really nice and bought some sweet deals earlier and he said,
"Well I have to say this is probably the weirdest sale I've been to... Just with all the different stuff."
So congratulations and thank you to everyone who gave us some things to set out for this. It's just such a spectrum of items... my dad's RV surplus stock items, baby stuff, mens and womens clothes, toys, gun holsters, bikes, bags, purses, backpacks, textbooks, glassware, wedding stuff, electronics, the infamous LG Microwave/Toaster, a trailer wheel, some huge (RV Width) mudflap-rock guards, records, a boat motor, an in room air conditioner, mickey mouse bobbleheads, about a billion huge rolls of every kind of tape imaginable, a huge cat door that you have to install like a window air conditioner, and a ton of Jenna's photography. And that's just a very small sampling of what is still here! Today and yesterday were very busy with so many people and everyone buying stuff. Yesterday we were getting haggled a lot but today it has been pretty fair without much complaining.

Welp, brb, I'm gonna run inside for a drink of water while there are no cars here!

Summer Plans

I know a lot of you have been wondering "what will I do this summer?", more importantly you may have been wondering "what will Mitch & Alice do this summer?!?!?!" :)

Well we are VERY excited about this summer and the plans God has laid out for us! It starts with about 2 weeks at home in Mishawaka/Osceola, IN hanging out with our families, which has been pretty good so far. First, we unloaded all of our stuff into our parents' houses, their garages, Mitch's dad's storage barn, AND a local a storage space....uhh thank goodness we're having a garage sale soon....we have too much stuff! Then the other night we had some delicious cake at my house, complete with "CONGRATS" written in chocolate on top! Last night we helped my dad make a facebook account, all I have to say is LOL. We spent about 30 minutes messing with the webcam to make the perfect profile picture. Then my dad left the room because we were laughing, only to come back in with a floodlight so Mitch could hold it for him to give the perfect lighting! It was hilarious. Things at Mitch's house have been equally fun. We tested out their new boat tonight and then had a cookout, complete with pasta and pie, it was good. Afterwards we all played bocce ball and discovered that their backyard is filled with mole hills, tall grass patches, and land mines from Toby....(their dog). Ok it's not that bad, I just don't have bocce skills so those are my excuses.

Next week we plan on stopping down to Purdue for about 24 hours (Monday-Tuesday) so I can officially submit my thesis! Yay! Then we're having the HUGE garage sale (Thurs-Sun) to raise money for our China trip. So if you're looking for some good deals on miscellaneous items (clothes, small appliances, cleaning supplies, books, office chair, jogging stroller, etc.) please stop by!

THEN June 4th we're heading up to Lake City, MI to volunteer at a camp for the month. Mitch will be on the maintenance crew (didn't you know he's also a handyman?!) and I will be an Office Assistant. Jenna will also be joining us and she'll be working in the kitchen as a baker for the month!

AND THEN July 1st we are flying to CHINA! First we will meet our friends Ryan & Kristen and help them move into a new home. Then we will teach English for 2 weeks to middle school and high school students. We are so excited to go back to China and spend time with our friends and the students at the camp! I know this is going to be a big event in our lives, I'm excited about what it may lead to next! If you would like to learn more about our trip, send us an email at mitchandalice@gmail.com and we'll send you the details.

And as if these events weren't enough, we'll be making the long trip up to Gull Bay, Ontario, Canada the first week of August with Mitch's uncles and grandpa for the annual camping/fishing trip! No electricity, no running water, nothing but the peace, quiet, and beauty of the great outdoors! NATURE!

Then a few weeks later we'll have to snap back to reality and move to Chicago to start working, as grown ups. Yikes! I'm only a little bit scared :)

Well that's it, that's all of it, sounds exciting right? Well we are VERY excited! Check back for updates, we'll try to share what's going on as often as we can.

At home for a week

We have unpacked a lot of our stuff and also some things we picked up over the past couple of weeks. Much of it will be going to our ... Garage Sale! It's next weekend, Thursday-Saturday, May 27-30. If you've got anything you want to get rid of, you can bring it by our place in Osceola, and slap a price tag on it! Also, we will be in Lafayette on Tuesday, so if you want us to bring something back, we can meet up and get some stuff from you! We're looking to make this a pretty big garage sale but let us know beforehand, so we will know how much we are going to have to fit into our car. Seriously, anything that fits in our car, we will take back with us. It's a free service from us to you! You're welcome!!

We are still raising money to pay for our China trip. We purchased our plane tickets to Fuzhou amid rapidly rising prices, but we will need to buy two more sets pretty soon-- from Fuzhou to Beijing, and then some tickets to get us back to the USA, if we decide to even buy those....

OK We stumbled across Lindsey's suggestion in the "comments" section, whatever that is... (j/k)... and now we can post new entries at our leisure.

To "conclude," we will be able to post new stuff whenever we want, we will take your garage sale items, and we have purchased some of our plane tickets. Do you remember writing essays in school? You know, you are supposed to have an intro, body, and conclusion. Typically it was ok for your conclusion to just be a restatement of your main points. But how is that a substitute for drawing any actual conclusion from the stuff you've said? I think that's silly, will somebody educate me?

"Free" color printing!

Tonight Mitch and I went to the Math bldg to print our support letters! Mitch did such a great job preparing them :)

We spent about $19 in my printing quota, but I started the semester with $50 so I might as well get as much as I can out of it! ...and I still have $30 left, anyone need anything printed???? there was a guy in here printing posters tonight, so if you need some wall decorations or something let me know, I'll hook you up.

So we still don't really know how to post blogs, every time we sign on we just click around until we find the dashboard. Tonight the way we found it was by becoming followers of our own blog.....I don't know what we're going to do tomorrow....

Alice is Blogging!

So....after a mumbled conversation with about 7 incomplete sentences earlier tonight, I managed to tell Jared & Becca and Steve & Lindsey that yes, we do in fact have a blog! Then Mitch and I spent a few minutes, well hours, choosing a nice template. I hope you like it.

This is my first blog, the next posts should be better :)
