Surprise! Happy Birthday Alice!

Alice celebrated her 25th birthday this past Saturday with a WONDERFUL SURPRISE PARTY!!! Mitch did all the behind the scenes organizing and secretly invited friends & family to come surprise Alice!

We had been feverishly cleaning all week, I just thought Mitch wanted the house to be clean for my family to visit.......but I should have known there was a reason for his unending motivation to get the house looking so nice! Saturday morning we planned to go pick up my mom and sisters from the city because they rode the train into town. Then we were driving back to our house around noon. Here is the view when we were driving up to our house.....what's going on?!?!?

People arrived early and held up signs saying: "Happy Birthday Alice! Surprise!"

Inside the house was a lovely display of food and snacks for lunch, complete with Happy Birthday plates, cups, and napkins! Just like the good ol' days of elementary school, even with a pitcher of Kool Aid!!!! And my favorite part of all was the CAKE!!! I had always wanted a Barbie cake and I figured "well this is my last birthday as a child I guess...since I'll have my own child at this time next year!" (as if someone at 25 years old could still be considered a child.....)

So I got my wish!!! Isn't she cute?!
After food & cake & presents, Mitch organized a fun game for everyone to play! We played a big round of "Picture Telephone" where you write a phrase or word on a paper, then pass it to your neighbor, then your neighbor has to DRAW that on the next paper and pass it to the next person, the next person then writes down what they think that picture is, and so on....well I must say it was the most crazy round I've played of that game!

My mom's was notable: it started as a cupcake, somehow transformed to a happy bride with cake, then into JABBA THE HUT looking excited about a present, then into a monster with cake, then ALICE AS A MONSTER WITH CAKE! I guess a lot of variation can come up when you play that game with so many people!

We ended up hosting about 20 people in our house. Friends and family traveled from northern Indiana, Milwaukee, and Purdue to come wish me a happy birthday!!! Thank you everyone who came!!!!! It means so much to me and I'm so glad you were a part of my special birthday! It was really so special and I'm so proud and thankful to have my wonderful husband Mitch for planning it all. He is just so great!

Then we gave tours our nice clean house, complete with a "Purdue room" of pics and accessories, as well as a nice display of decorations and souvenirs from China. Later everyone wanted to see the lake, since we're only about 3 blocks away. So we all walked down to the lake, saw it, felt cold, then walked back!

Here's my family at Lake Michigan: Arlene, my Dad, my Mom, me, and Audrey
Then that night we went out to dinner with my family and friends Whitney & Andrew at my new favorite restaurant, California Pizza Kitchen! Of course my mom told the waitress it was my birthday so they brought me a Sundae!!! MmMm it was so good! They have premium stuff there that's for sure!

WOW! It was just such a wonderful birthday! Thank you everyone who came to surprise me, thank you for the birthday wishes from those who couldn't come, and thank you to my husband for planning such a special day for me!
